What Are Wrinkles?
Wrinkles result from a loss of collagen and elastin function [i.e., proteins that impart tension, thus making skin firm, smooth, and elastic]. Wrinkle generation gradually increases due to external factors such as solar irradiation, ambient air pollution, and behaviours.
Wrinkles are broadly classified into:-
- Dynamic Wrinkles - Contagion due to motor imagery repetition (e.g., smiling, frowning, or squinting). Examples include crow’s feet and forehead lines.
- Static Wrinkles - A visible ageing and environmental damage consequence, appearing even when one so is at rest.
- Wrinkle Folds - Sharp folds of skin, due to loss of skin tone, frequently perioral and nasal.
Causes of Wrinkles
- Aging - In the elderly, the intrinsic elasticity and humidity of the skin are reduced. Production of collagen is reduced and skin is made more elastic and less flexible.
- Sun Exposure - Ultraviolet (UV) irradiation implodes collagen fibrils, accelerating photosensitized photo ageing of the skin and producing wrinkles.
- Lifestyle Choices - Smoking, poor diet and dehydration all have a damaging effect on the skin and can lead to premature ageing.
- Genetics - The history of the family, further, plays a role in the diagnosis of skin colour and the prevention of wrinkles.
- Repeated Facial Expressions - Since the same facial movements are repeated and repeated, grooves are worn under the skin surface and eventually transform into wrinkles.
Preventing Wrinkles
However, in wrinkles, prevention is still the best medicine. Some effective strategies include:-
- Barrier sun screening with broad-spectrum SPF daily to prevent ultraviolet (UV) radiation.
- Antioxidants and moisturizers ingredients in a skincare regimen intended to revitalize the skin.
- Consuming adequate amounts of fluids and consuming a vitamin and mineral-rich diet.
- Avoiding smoking and limiting alcohol consumption.
- Getting enough sleep and managing stress effectively.
Wrinkle Treatments at Dermavision - The Skin Clinic
Dermavision - The Skin Clinic provides all of the state-of-the-art currently available treatments that can be used for wrinkle removal, generation of skin elasticity and general rejuvenation.
- Botox Injections - Botox is a fairly common, minimally invasive therapy for dynamic creases. It also transiently relaxes the muscles of facial expression, which smoothes wrinkles and prevents the appearance of new ones.
- Dermal Fillers - Dermal fillers restore the volume and hydration of the skin and can treat static wrinkles and deep folds satisfyingly. These fillers are made of hyaluronic-acid, a substance naturally occurring that creates wrinkles and injects volume into the dermis.
- Chemical Peels - Chemical peels remove the skin surface (i.e., exfoliate the stratum corneum and stimulate the proliferation of the stratum corneum). This treatment improves skin texture and reduces fine lines.
- Microneedling - Microneedling induces collagen synthesis by making small, precise wounds on the outer skin (i.e. It's useful for improvement of wrinkle and skin tone appearance.
- Laser Resurfacing - Laser therapy works by stimulating collagen production in the deeper layers of the dermis to lift skin and refine wrinkles.
- Prescription Skincare Products - Our dermatologists suggest retinoids, antioxidants, and peptides to enhance collagen production and improve the skin's youthful look.
- Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy - PRP therapy is a technique utilizing platelet suspension obtained from the patient's blood to restore the skin through collagen and elastin stimulation. This natural approach promotes smoother and firmer skin.
